Canadian Forex Midday: C$ Firms

Winnipeg, July 27 – The Canadian dollar was higher against its US counterpart at midday Monday, as the US dollar softened, and traders waited to hear from the US Federal Reserve later this week.

The Canadian dollar was at US$0.7696 or US$1 = C$1.2947 at 11:50 CDT Monday morning. Investors took profits on long US dollar trades.

Both oil and copper were lower on the day which limited the gains.

Britain’s top share index, the blue-chip FTSE, fell for the fifth session in a row on Monday.

On the commodity markets the August crude contract in New York fell US$0.55 to US$48.06 a barrel. The August gold contract climbed US$10.10 to US$1,095.70 an ounce.

At 11:50 CDT Monday morning, the Toronto Stock Exchange was down 148.85 points to 14,037.72
