Catholics get issues list
Canada’s Roman Catholic hierarchy last week decided to delicately enter the election fray by suggesting a series of issues Canadian Catholics should raise with their candidates.
Abortion rights, the plight of the poor, the need for improvements in the condition of native communities and the issue of a Liberal-established $975 landing fee for immigrants are raised in a pamphlet to be distributed in churches before June 2.
In Ottawa, archbishop Marcel Gervais suggested the right of workers to organize unions, and the right of Canadians to own private property, be added to the list.
However, he said private property rights should not be absolute.
