Ag Canada leaves 2015-16 pulse crop outlook relatively unchanged

WINNIPEG — Agriculture Canada released its latest supply and demand report for Canadian pulse crops yesterday, leaving the outlook for 2015-16 pulse and specialty crops relatively unchanged.

The seven major specialty and pulse crops are dry peas, lentils, dry beans, chickpeas, mustardseed, canary seed and sunflower seed.

Ag Canada pegged 2015-16 total Canadian pulse production at 6.567 million tonnes, unchanged from its May report. In 2014-15, pulse and specialty crop production was pegged at 6.19 million tonnes.

Total exports of the seven major specialty and pulse crops for 2015-16 were at 5.365 million tonnes, unchanged from the previous estimate. Exports in 2014-15 were pegged at 5.515 million tonnes, up slightly from 5.465 million tonnes in May.

Crop input costs to rise in 2026: FCC

Crop input costs are expected to rise in 2026, while crop prices are expected to come down, according to Farm Credit Canada’s analysis.

Domestic usage is expected to be 1.230 million tonnes for 2015-16, which was the same as last month’s estimate. For 2014-15, domestic usage was pegged at 1.170 million tonnes, which was down from 1.215 million in May.

Ag Canada made some slight adjustments to individual crop ending stocks figures for 2015-16, but the total remained unchanged from the last report at 490,000 tonnes. Ending stocks for 2014-15 were estimated at 365,000 tonnes.

These are June estimates for Canadian 2015-16 (Aug.-July) and 2014-15 pulse and special crop supply and demand. The numbers are in million tonnes.
