Richardson buys margarine firm

Richardson International is ex-panding its presence in the food business with the purchase of Margarine Golden Gate – Michca Inc.

Family-owned Golden Gate has a 60,000 sq. foot manufacturing plant in Oakville, Ont., which was built in 2003. It produces margarines and shortening for the industrial, food service, retail and export markets. A sale price was not stated in the news release.

Richardson will now have two margarine and shortening manufacturing plants in Ontario. In 2011, Richardson bought Innovative Foods, a margarine and shortening manufacturing business with plants in Mississauga, Ont., and Sussex, N.B.

Richardson also owns canola processor Canbra Foods in Lethbridge, Alta.
