ARDEN, Man. – The body of a 72-year-old man was found May 9 in a Canadian Wheat Board grain car parked for loading at the Arden elevator operated by Manitoba Pool Elevators. RCMP said the man apparently died of natural causes.
Elevator agent Terry Jackson said he noticed the body in a compartment of the grain car while doing routine inspection. The compartment amounts to a crawl space providing structural support for the hoppers in a grain car. It is accessible from a door at the end of the car.
The man was last seen two months ago. He was known at shelters in British Columbia and Alberta, but did not have a fixed address. RCMP said the man travelled rail lines quite frequently. They say it “isn’t unusual” for people to ride the rails today.
