UPDATED – Wednesday March 4, 2015 – 1820 CST – A fire at Port Metro Vancouver has forced officials to evacuate parts of the port and ask CP Rail to suspend shipments on its rail line.
The fire is located in the Centerm container terminal.
A statement posted online by Port Metro Vancouver said they received confirmation at about 3:40 p.m. CST that a container was on fire at the Centerm container terminal on the south shore of Burrard Inlet.
The statement went on to say the material inside is a hazardous organic compound (trichloroisocyanuric acid), and is a possible eye and skin irritant. Nearby properties have also been evacuated.
