U.S. livestock: Hog futures hit contract highs on shock herd decline

Chicago | Reuters – Lean hog futures stormed to contract highs at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange on Friday as smaller-than-expected…

Chicago wheat edged only a little higher but hard red spring wheat jumped more than 2.5 percent on firming cash markets and talk of exporter pricing, possibly from Japan or China. Spring wheat cash values firmed sharply in the U.S. Pacific Northwest, Reuters reported.
However, generally, U.S. wheat prices are higher than other competing sources and that is expected to limit any rallies.
Crop condition ratings for winter wheat fell in Kansas and Illinois during February while conditions improved slightly in Texas and Oklahoma.
Corn rose on support from wheat and also news late in the day that farmers in Argentina were planning a three day protest of export quotas and other government policies they say hurt profits. They said they would not sell any grain for three days starting on Wednesday.
Light crude oil nearby futures in New York were up 93 cents to US$50.52 per barrel.
