Dairy commission gets new executive

OTTAWA (Staff) — Two Prairie dairy producers have been appointed to the Canadian Dairy Commission, the agency which administers the national dairy supply management system.

Louis Balcaen from La Broquerie, Man., past president of Dairy Farmers of Canada, has been appointed part-time vice-chair of the CDC. Alvin Johnstone of Red Deer, Alta. was named a part-time commissioner.

Gilles PrŽgent, head of the Quebec marketing board watchdog agency, has been named chair of the CDC.

The appointments, announced May 6 by agriculture minister Ralph Goodale, take effect June 1.
