Despite a sell-off in soybeans, canola futures held steady on the first trading day of 2015, thanks to the weakness of the Canadian dollar.

The loonie fell nearly a cent from Dec. 31 to Jan. 2. The Bank of Canada noon rate was US 85.27 cents today, compared to 86.2 cents Wednesday. Traders attributed the fall to the strength of the U.S. dollar. The greenback is gaining ground against all major currencies because traders expect the U.S. Federal Reserve to raise interest rates in 2015.
