The New-Life Mills feed plant in Lethbridge has been purchased by Okotoks, Alta.-based Hi-Pro Feeds and will be permanently closed on Dec. 1.
The purchase price was not disclosed.
The New-Life plant was formerly owned by Parrish and Heimbecker, which also operates feed mills in Ontario and Saskatchewan. The mill has been operating in Lethbridge since 1964.
Hi-Pro is the company that acquired the assets of Viterra’s North American feed business two years ago.
As of Dec. 1, all feed once manufactured and distributed by the New-Life plant in Lethbridge will shift to the Hi-Pro plant, which is also in the city’s industrial area.

In a Nov. 26 news release, Hi-Pro Feeds founder Daren Kennett said the move is part of his company’s growth strategy. He said the Lethbridge mill has had $4 million worth of investment in the last three years so it can accommodate the business that shifts from the New-Life mill.
Larry Penner, regional sales manager for Hi-Pro, said staff are dedicated to ensure a seamless transition for customers.
Three New-Life employees, including general manager Jassen Jackman and territory salespeople Sherry Zarowny and Doug Holt, will be hired at Hi-Pro, according to the release.
