Maple Leaf loss gets bigger

(Reuters) — Maple Leaf Foods reported a slightly bigger quarterly loss on higher charges related to modernizing some of its meat plants.

It reported a net loss from continuing operations of $26.7 million for the quarter that ended Sept. 30, compared with $24.5 million a year earlier.

Costs at its prepared meat business rose to $25.2 million during the third quarter, up by $14.6 million.
