One of Alberta’s premier agricultural exhibition locations is getting a $150 million facelift.
Northlands Park officials plan to give the 166-acre site a complete overhaul over the next 10 years.
“We know that in order to remain one of the business and entertainment elements that make this city vibrant, we have to stay current, upgrade our facilities and evolve to meet the needs of the public,” said Dale Leschiutta, president of Northlands Park.
There are more than 2,500 events each year at Northlands including hockey games, concerts, trade fairs, agricultural exhibitions and rodeos.
The renovation master plan includes seven phases over the next 10 years.
Phase 1, which begins this spring, includes new parking spaces, improved signs, lighting and landscaping in the parking and entrance area.
Phase 2, estimated to be completed in 2008, includes replacing the Sportex and Administration buildings with an Exposition Centre.
Also in the plans are a new agricultural pavilion with dedicated stalls and show rings, and upgrades to AgriCom.
Northlands Park is a 125-year-old not-for-profit agricultural society.
