Grading fees lowered
Meat grading fees were reduced as of Jan. 1, says the Canadian Beef Grading Agency.
The fees are lower by eight to 20 cents per head on beef, veal and bison. Fees vary according to individual packer costs, said agency manager Cindy Celaloye. Grading fees in 1998 ranged from a low of 42 cents to about $1.50 for a beef carcass.
Meat grading was privatized in 1996 and since that time the agency has graded more than seven million carcasses.
New grain group
An Alberta rye and triticale association has been formed to address research, processing, production and marketing of these two grains.
