WINNIPEG, April 22 The Canadian dollar was weaker compared to its US counterpart at 9:03 CDT Monday, as traders squared positions ahead of Tuesday’s Canadian retail sales data.
At 9:03 CDT Monday, the Canadian dollar was at US$0.9725 or US$=C$1.0283, which compares with Friday’s North American close of US$0.9744 or US$=C$1.0263.
Some speculative selling was also behind some of the weakness in the value of the Canadian dollar, said traders.
However, the decline was limited by spill over support from the gains seen in commodity prices, including crude oil and gold.
There was no significant Canadian economic data to report on Monday.
The TSX was down 3.26 points, or 0.03%, at 9:03 CDT Monday morning to sit at 12,062.29.
