A new company will take over the agriculture and food management training courses offered by the George Morris Centre.
Larry Martin of Guelph, Ont., and Heather Broughton of Camrose will operate the new company, called Agri-Food Management Excellence.
Martin said it became clear they would need to own the company if the business management training programs were going to expand.
“It was obvious we could do it ourselves,” said Martin, who taught many of the farm business management courses offered at the economic research institute focusing on agriculture and the food industry.
Martin said they will continue to add courses, explore the option of breaking up the courses into smaller segments and adding web based courses to reduce travel.
“There is lots of interest in the possibility for online distance education,” he said.
More than 1,200 people have taken the Canadian Total Excellence in Agricultural Management program for farmers, and the Canadian Farm and Agri-business Management Excellence program for agri-food processors, as well as commodity and risk management courses.
