A prominent Manitoba agri-business leader has been named to the board of a federal crown corporation that helps Canadian business connect with foreign buyers.
Sherry Hewler, vice-president of Shur-Gro Farm Supplies and Munro Farm Services Ltd. in Brandon, was appointed a board member for the Canadian Commercial Corp. Dec. 18.
International trade minister Ed Fast made the appointment.
The trade department statement said she has “extensive experience in the financial sector, including in financial analysis, with companies such as Bank of Montreal and Angus Reid Group.”
Shur-Gro and Munro operate a farm supply network throughout Manitoba. The company was started in 1968.
The CCC helps Canadian companies make contact and negotiate deals with foreign governments interested in procuring goods from Canada.
“The corporation focuses on areas where there is a clear role for government, such as defence and security,” said the department statement.
“It also focuses on emerging and developing markets where governments of other countries may require additional capacity to undertake complex and timely procurements and projects.”
