Farmers and grain shippers appear to have avoided a work stoppage at Canadian National Railway that could have disrupted grain shipping during the busy autumn season.Canadian National Railway and workers represented by Teamsters Canada have signed a tentative agreement that, if ratified, would prevent a strike or lockout this fall.The teamsters group includes 2,700 conductors, rail yard employees and traffic co-coordinators.The three-year deal was signed Oct. 1. No further deals were released.Both sides were in a legal position to implement a work stoppage.Grain shippers and farmers had expressed concerns that a job disruption at the railway would have serious negative impacts for the industry and for farmers.
