With the introduction of its 2027 Ski-Doo model line, Quebec-based BRP has announced several updates for most of its machines, including the two utility models that are designed for work: the Skandic and Tundra.
They will adopt the redesigned REV seating position that the brand has been introducing across its entire line.
It changes the seating position of the rider from the traditional legs-forward, leaned-back arrangement to something more akin to riding a motocross motorcycle.

Economic indicators your farm should keep an eye on
Part two in a series exploring the factors influencing farm growth in an era of economic volatility.

“It’s called REV because it revolutionized the industry, really changing the way people ride,” says Vincent Deschênes, product manager for Ski-Doo.
“It’s a much more rider-forward position, more active riding. That was first introduced in 2003. Now we’re at the fifth generation of that rider platform.
“Every five or six years we update the platform across the model range. This is the year we’re introducing a new platform for the utility segment, which means the Skandic and Tundra models. They were the last models still on the old platform.”
The newest version of the 600cc Rotax engine also debuts for 2027 across the brand’s model lineup.

The previous E-TEC 600R engine design, which was introduced for model year 2019, gets an update. The new version that replaces it will offer a little more horsepower and an Eco Mode for those who are concerned about fuel economy and operating costs.
“It’s been a while since we launched the E-TEC direct injection engines,” says Deschênes.
“This will be the third generation of the 600 cc class E-TEC. We call it the 600RR. It’s an evolution of the one we launched for model year ’19.
“We came out with three main pillars for that project. The first one was to bring more performance. We increased the power by five horsepower. We also increased the throttle response by 20 per cent. We also wanted to bring out more character, so we have been working on the sound signature.”
The brand recognized that those buyers who opt for a machine with a 600 cc engine are typically more concerned about operating costs than those who opt for much larger engines. So the new 600RR can now provide that extra performance and still save five per cent on fuel costs, as well as reduce oil consumption by 20 per cent.
To help achieve that goal of reduced oil consumption, the brand upgraded its XPS motor oil offering, which is now specifically designed to work with the new engine.
The Skandic and Tundra also get an updated front suspension, which moves away from the typical double A-arm version to a telescopic design. Using that allows for a more streamlined belly pan that reduces plowing from the suspension, allowing the machine to float better over deep snow.

“Instead of having double A-arms with more exposed components … these are telescopic, so they are very simple and rugged,” says Deschênes.
“It floats and glides through snow very easily. It’s very robust. It’s a design exclusive to Ski-Doo. We sell a lot to the army. They like the robustness and reliability of those models. It’s something we’re proud to be the only one to offer.”
The Skandic’s wide 20- and 24-inch wide track options also add with flotation.
The Tundra uses a 16-inch track. It’s more of a crossover machine, with a more sporty character.
“It’s is for recreational and light-duty use,” says Deschênes.
“It’s a bit more agile and easier to manoeuvre, a bit more playful but less capable in terms of work capacity.”
The Skandic, however, has a 1,200 pound tow rating, which bumps up to 1,500 lb. with the HD bumper option.
