Saskatchewan’s harvest progressed by only four percent in the last week and continues to run well behind normal, but the forecast for sunny, warm weather could mean better things are ahead.
Saskatchewan Agriculture reported today that 18 percent of the crop had been combined as of Sept. 20.
An additional 41 percent is swathed or ready to straight-combine
The previous week, 14 percent had been combined and 36 percent was swathed or ready to straight combine.
Last year at the same time, 50 percent of the crop had been combined and 33 per cent was swathed or ready to straight cut.
The five-year average is 65 percent combined.
Widespread rain and frost during the week damaged crops.
Environment Canada forecasts sun and warm temperatures beginning on Friday and lasting until at least the middle of next week.
