Tim Treadway returned to his life as a homesteader last week after a few days of modern medical treatment in Winnipeg.

Treadway is one of four people who were plunked in an isolated plot somewhere in southern Manitoba this spring to spend a year living much the same as prairie settlers did in the 1870s.

He was taken to hospital in late November because of a respiratory infection. He was able to return to the homesteading site Dec. 1.

“He’s fine,” said Andy Blicq, director of Pioneer Quest, the television series being developed around the experiences of the modern-day homesteaders.

“He’s going to have to rest for a while but he’s back home.”

The first segment of Pioneer Quest aired on the History Channel Nov. 19. It gave viewers a glimpse of what Treadway and his fellow homesteaders have endured since June, when they first arrived at the site.

The show attracted 317,000 viewers, making it the highest rated show ever broadcast on the History Channel, Blicq said.

The next segment of the series is scheduled to air Feb. 4.
