Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $67.57 April 7 and $70.39 March 31.

U.S. hogs averaged $90.82 on a carcass basis April 7, up from $90.58 March 31.

The U.S. pork cutout was $97.82 per hundredweight April 7, up from $96.25 March 31.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to April 7 was 0.864 million. It was 0.986 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 0.974 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the April 4 Signature Four price was $222.73 per 100 kilograms, down from $223.48.

The April 4 Hams Marketing cash price was $220.73, while on March 28 it was $221.48. HyLife was $236.46 this week; it was $236.92 March 28. OlyWest was $226.30, down from $227.00 last week.

OlyWest 2021 was down, at $233.30, from $235.40, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $236.46 this week. On March 28 it was $236.92.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices of $645-$700 per cwt., hot hanging weight, for finished bulls and $630-$685 per cwt. for finished heifers. Mature bulls were $550-$600, while mature cows were $550-$600 per cwt.

Carcass prices for bison sold into the United States were US$495-$515 per cwt. for bulls and $460-$485 per cwt. for heifers.

Mature bull and cow prices were not available.

All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.

Prices for live bison in Canada were C$5.74 per pound for bulls and $5.45 per pound for heifers of good quality or better.

The mixed live animal price was not available.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 179 sheep and 106 lambs sold April 6.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,152 sheep and 332 goats sold March 30

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $485-$615 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $520-$610, 70-85 lb. were $450-$540, 86-105 lb. were $390-$508, and 106 lb. and heavier were $320-$405. Wool rams were $190-$340 per cwt. Cull ewes were $180-$385.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $440-$495, 55-69 lb. were $450-$525, 70-85 lb. were $435-$510, 86-105 lb. were $400-$450 and 106 lb. and heavier were $300-$370. Hair rams were $330-$390 per cwt. Cull ewes were $270-$360.
