Saskatchewan and Ottawa have announced $5.5 million to fund 34 livestock and forage research projects.
The funding is available through Saskatchewan’s Agriculture Development Fund and the Strategic Field Program.
The SFP is designed to demonstrate and evaluate targeted practices and technologies. The first project under this program will be to confirm water sulfate consumption guidelines for beef cattle.
Of the total funding, forage projects will receive more than $1.9 million, followed by beef and dairy at $1.8 million. Swine, poultry and other species research account for the remainder.
The University of Saskatchewan will receive $4.4 million, while the National Research Council, Prairie Swine Centre, Lakeland College and University of Regina will also receive funds.
