An Alberta farm equipment manufacturing company is preparing to celebrate a milestone in its 46-year history.

Supreme International Ltd. will officially open a $1.4 million expansion to its Wetaskiwin manufacturing plant Oct. 6.

The plant produces a vertical cutter-mixer-feeder, which allows cattle producers to make a total mixed ration from dry feed, silage, grains and other dry commodities.

The expansion includes a new paint booth, where a powder coating will be applied to the product and baked. This allows the paint to cure completely in days, instead of the month it used to take in the old facility.

As well, Supreme’s administrative offices are now attached to the plant.

Executive secretary Crystal Siudy said 22 new employees will be hired in the manufacturing plant as a result of the expansion, bringing the workforce to 88.

Supreme International caters primarily to the beef and dairy cattle business, although there are also applications in other industries, such as composting and recycling.
