Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts is $77.70 Aug 13, down from $78.29 Aug 6.

U.S. hogs averaged $97.97 on a carcass basis Aug. 13, down from $99.15 Aug 6.

The U.S. pork cutout was $125.68 per hundredweight Aug 13, up from $123.67 Aug 6.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Aug 14 was 2.415 million, up from 2.327 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.561 last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Aug. 14 Signature Four price was C$238.37 per 100 kilograms, down from $241.97.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $236.37, down from $239.37, HyLife was $252.16, down from $258.09, and OlyWest was $251.40, up from $251.30. OlyWest 2021 was $262.50, up from $261.50, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $253.26, down from $262.03.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4-$4.15 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and $3.90-$4.15 for heifers on very light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60-$4.80 for prime bulls and $4.40-$4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.85-$4 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60-$3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,538 sheep, lambs and goats sold Aug 9.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 2,245 sheep and 348 goats sold Aug. 9.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $195-$242 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $200-$239, 70-85 lb. were $195-$228, 86-105 lb. were $190-$232 and 106 lb. and heavier were $195-$226. Wool rams were $135-$205 per cwt. Cull ewes were $120-$195.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $150-$175 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $190-$200, 70-85 lb. were $180-$210, 86-105 lb. were $180-$220 and 106 lb. and heavier were $180-$215. Hair rams were $130-$205 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$155.
