Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was not available July 16, but was $85.05 July 9.

U.S. hogs averaged $107.32 on a carcass basis July 16, down from $111.86 July 9.

The U.S. pork cutout was $119.94 per hundredweight July 16, up from $116.44 July 9.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to July 17 was 2.280 million, up from 1.923 million the previous week. Slaughter was 2.517 last year at the same time.

In Canada, the July 17 Signature Four price was C$238.82 per 100 kilograms, down from $238.93.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $238.93, up from $236.93, HyLife was $254.89, up from $252.80, and OlyWest was $246.20, up from $245.30. OlyWest 2021 was $249.20, up from $248.70, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $254.89, up from $252.80.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4-$4.15 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls, and heifers sold for $3.90-$4.15 on very light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60-$4.80 for prime bulls and $4.40-$4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.85-$4 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60-$3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,970 sheep and lambs and 88 goats sold July 12.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,459 sheep and 443 goats sold July 12.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $230-$262 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $220-$260, 70-85 lb. were $220-$250, 86-105 lb. were $230-$275 and 106 lb. and heavier were $225-$265. Wool rams were $140-$195 per cwt. Cull ewes were $130-$180.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $170-$225 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $180-$220, 70-85 lb. were $200-$235, 86-105 lb. were $230-$265 and 106 lb. and heavier were $215-$245. Hair rams were $150-$225 per cwt. Cull ewes were $120-$160.
