Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $84.06 July 2, down from $88.70 June 25.

U.S. hogs averaged $108.21 on a carcass basis July 2, down from $116.89 June 25.

The U.S. pork cutout was $115.19 per hundredweight July 2, down from $110.04 June 25.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to July 3 was 2.282 million, down from 2.359 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.039 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the July 3 Signature Four price was C$238.01 per 100 kilograms, down from $250.38.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $238.01, down from $248.38, HyLife was $236.01, down from $262.85, and OlyWest was $255.90, down from $267.60. OlyWest 2021 was $248.10, down from $264.70, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $252.87, down from $257.32.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4-$4.15 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and $3.90-$4.15 for heifers on very light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60-$4.80 for prime bulls and $4.40-$4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.85-$4 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60-$3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation, and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,029 sheep and lambs and 31 goats sold June 28. Lean sheep traded lower. Thick sheep sold steady. Lambs and goats sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 558 sheep and 166 goats sold June 28.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $260-$295 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $250-$285, 70-85 lb. were $230-$271, 86-105 lb. were $235-$261 and 106 lb. and heavier were $225-$251. Wool rams were $150-$205 per cwt. Cull ewes were $130-$210.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $230-$260 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $230-$260, 70-85 lb. were $234-$260, 86-105 lb. were $220-$245 and 106 lb. and heavier were $215-$225. Hair rams were $170-$230 per cwt. Cull ewes were $130-$200.
