Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $95.03 June 18, up from $90.25 June 11.

U.S. hogs averaged $122.62 on a carcass basis June 18, up from $119.26 June 11.

The U.S. pork cutout was $120.65 per hundredweight June 18, down from $132.54 June 11.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to June 19 was 2.443 million, up from 2.440 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.593 last year at the same time.

In Canada, the June 19 Signature Four price was C$253.87 per 100 kilograms, up from $238.50.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $251.87, up from $244.41, HyLife was $268.73, up from $261.88, and OlyWest was $264.10, up from $251.80. OlyWest 2021 was $271.50, up from $262.40, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $268.73, down from $274.77.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4-$4.15 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and $3.90-$4.15 on heifers on light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60-$4.80 for prime bulls and $4.40-$4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.85-$4 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60-$3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation, and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,201 sheep and lambs and 298 goats sold June 14.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,079 sheep and 301 goats sold June 14.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $260-$300 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $260-$295, 70-85 lb. were $254-$290, 86-105 lb. were $244-$265 and 106 lb. and heavier were $230-$242. Wool rams were $145-$195 per cwt. Cull ewes were $140-$242.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $260-$290 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $240-$288, 70-85 lb. were $245-$270, 86-105 lb. were $240-$255 and 106 lb. and heavier were $225-$240. Hair rams were $160-$180 per cwt. Cull ewes were $113-$257.
