Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts is not available for Nov. 20 and Nov. 13.

U.S. hogs averaged $58.73 on a carcass basis Nov. 20, down from $59.59 Nov. 13.

The U.S. pork cutout was $78.17 per hundredweight Nov. 20, down from $80.14 Nov. 13.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Nov. 21 was 2.711 million, up from 2.683 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.767 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Nov. 21 Signature Four price was C$163.78 per 100 kilograms, down from $166.23.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $161.78, down from $164.23, HyLife was $172.86, down from $176.22, and OlyWest was $165.80, down from $167.70. OlyWest 2021 was $181.12, down from $183.70, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $175.51, down from $183.51.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $3.50 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and heifers on light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.85 for prime bulls and $4.70-$4.85 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$4 per lb. hog hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.70-$3.85. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation, and export costs.

Lambs

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,034 sheep and 98 goats sold Nov. 16.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $260-$305 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $270-$306, 70-85 lb. were $262-$293, 86-105 lb. were $249-$286 and 106 lb. and heavier were $240-$260. Wool rams were $175-$200 per cwt. Cull ewes were $145-$201.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $250-$290 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $260-$295, 70-85 lb. were $260-$285, 86-105 lb. were $249-$265 and 106 lb. and heavier were $240-$255. Hair rams were $160-$180 per cwt. Cull ewes were $140-$230.
