Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was not available Nov. 13 or Nov. 6.

U.S. hogs averaged $59.59 on a carcass basis Nov. 13, down from $60.18 Nov. 6.

The U.S. pork cutout was $80.14 per hundredweight Nov. 13, down from $84.06 Nov. 6.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Nov. 14 was 2.688 million, down from 2.713 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.761 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Nov. 14 Signature Four price was C$166.23 per 100 kilograms, down from $170.27.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $164.23, down from $168.27, HyLife was $176.22, down from $179.67, and OlyWest was $167.70, down from $177.40. OlyWest 2021 was $183.70, down from $193.30, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $183.51, down from $187.84.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $3.50 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and heifers on light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.85-$5 for prime bulls and $4.70-$4.85 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.95 per lb. hog hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.70. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation, and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 739 sheep and lambs and 47 goats sold Nov. 9. Lean sheep and drams traded at sharply stronger prices. Thick sheep sold steady. All classes of lambs traded at stronger prices. Goats sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 693 sheep and 199 goats sold Nov. 9.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $260-$290 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $270-$299, 70-85 lb. were $264-$285, 86-105 lb. were $253-$272 and 106 lb. and heavier were $240-$262. Wool rams were $142-$172 per cwt. Cull ewes were $155-$190.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $230-$260 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $254-$280, 70-85 lb. were $250-$275, 86-105 lb. were $242-$265 and 106 lb. and heavier were $235-$255. Hair rams were $151-$175 per cwt. Cull ewes were $170-$270.
