Global Markets: North Korea to “redouble efforts” in response to sanctions

Sept. 13 (CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– North Korea remains defiant in the face of stronger United Nations sanctions as it vowed to “redouble the efforts to increase its strength to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and right to existence….”

– Residents of Caribbean islands continue to dig through rubble looking for survivors of people who may be trapped following Hurricane Irma. Many areas remain in darkness without power and assistance, as worries about food and water supplies mount. As well, more than four million people remain without power in Florida.

– The U.S. Supreme Court has granted a request from President Donald Trump’s administration to continue to ban most refugees under legislation that prevents refugees from certain Muslim countries from entering the United States. It overturns exemptions granted by a lower court that permits about 24,000 refugees with contractual commitments from resettlement agencies.
