- In Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s efforts to diversify the country’s foreign trade, he will meet with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Thursday in Mexico City. Carney is seeking bilateral trade ties that are free of United States influence and separate from the upcoming renegotiation of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement.
- CUSMA is in question following comments by U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra, who said on Tuesday that a larger deal is “not going to happen” at this time. The office for Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc said the federal government will soon announce it will engage in consultations about CUSMA. The trade deal that succeeded the North American Free Trade Agreement is set to expire in 2026.

- China continued to be largely absent from the U.S. Department of Agriculture weekly export sales report on Thursday. The USDA said corn sales for the week ended Sept. 11 exceeded 1.23 million tonnes and wheat sales were nearly 378,000 tonnes. Those for soybeans were 923,000 tonnes, along with 31,200 tonnes of soymeal and 22,400 of soyoil.
- Fertilizer prices have shot up, a report from APK Inform said on Thursday. The report said the average price for the ‘fertilizer basket’ was US$507 per ton last month, up from US$336 a year ago. So far in 2025, nitrogen fertilizers have increased 22 per cent and potash rose seven per cent.
- As U.S. President Donald Trump continued his state visit to the United Kingdom on Thursday, he said there’s an “unbreakable bond” between the U.S. and the U.K. Together with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump signed a multi-billion dollar technology deal that includes Nvidia, Open AI and Google.
