Gordon Food Service Canada Ltd. has added its name to those participating in the sustainable beef program through the Canadian Roundtable on Sustainable Beef.
The Gordon Choice boxed beef program announced today that it would source a minimum 30 percent of its beef from CRSB Certified Sustainable farms and ranches.
The CRSB is a multi-stakeholder audit program that ensures members comply with environmental, social and economic requirements in raising or processing animals for beef.
“Our customers and consumers continue to ask questions around how sustainable our Canadian cattle industry is, and want to know they are purchasing products raised with sustainability in mind,” said Gordon Food Service Canada marketing manager Darren Frey in a news release.
“By aligning our brand with the CRSB we can now proudly talk to the benefits that prioritize our planet, people, animals and progress.”
Gordons partners with Cargill and Intercity Packers Meat & Seafood, both of which track cattle and beef from CRSB certified operations. It is the first boxed beef program in Canada to source product from CRSB certified farms and ranches.
We’re excited to announce our incorporation of sustainable sourcing for our Gordon Choice boxed beef, the first to do so in Canada! We source at least 30% of the beef for the Gordon Choice line from @CRSB_beef audited farms & ranches. Learn more: https://t.co/DUnX2kmNXd pic.twitter.com/DvDt0puxT3
