Ukraine 2017/18 grain exports down 10 percent

KIEV, Jan 10 (Reuters) – Ukraine has exported 21.3 million
tonnes of grain in the agricultural year that began in July,
down from about 23.6 million in the same period last year, the
Agriculture Ministry said on Wednesday.

Exports included 11.4 million tonnes of wheat, 3.8 million
tonnes of barley and about 6 million tonnes of maize, it said in
a statement.

Exports at the same point a year ago included about 12
million tonnes of wheat.

Ukraine has said it harvested 62.3 million tonnes of grain

this agricultural year compared with a record 66 million tonnes
in 2016. The season runs from July to June.

The acting agriculture minister last month cut the country’s
2017/18 grain export forecast to around 41 million tonnes from
42 million tonnes previously, mainly due to transport problems.

Maksym Martyniuk cited growing problems with logistics and a
shortage of wagons and locomotives.

Ukraine exported around 44 million tonnes of grain,
including 17.4 million tonnes of wheat, in the 2016/17 season.
