Ukraine 2014 grain harvest seen at record high

KIEV (Reuters) — Ukraine’s 2014 grain harvest may exceed last year’s record output of 63 million tonnes thanks to favourable weather this winter and spring, weather forecasters said on Friday.

“The situation with winter and spring crops is better than last year and we can exceed last year’s level,” Tetyana Adamenko, head of Ukraine’s state weather forecasting centre’s agriculture department, told Reuters.

She said the Ukrainian winter wheat harvest could rise to between 22.5 million tonnes and 23.5 million tonnes this year, against 21.8 million tonnes in 2013.
