India’s winter planting down 0.2 percent – farm ministry

Jan 5 (Reuters) – Winter-crop planting in India fell by about 0.2 percent from the same period last year, government data showed on Friday.

The area used for winter planting is used as an indicator of farm output, but overall production also depends on a variety of factors, including the weather conditions.

Wheat planting since the start of the planting season in early October fell 4.8 percent to 28.35 million hectares. Rapeseed planting fell by 6 percent to 6.53 million hectares to date.
