Winnipeg (MarketsFarm) – Cool and wet weather hampered harvest operations in Saskatchewan during the week ended Sept. 9, according to the latest provincial crop report.
The harvest was roughly 18 percent complete by the end of the week. That was up from 11 percent the previous week, but well behind the five-year average of 43 percent done. An additional 25 percent of crops in the province were swathed or ready to straight-cut, with warm and windy weather needed for farmers to get back on their fields.
The southwest region of the province was most advanced in the harvest, at 31 percent complete.

Rain fell onto the southern half of Alberta last week, while hot and dry conditions persisted in the northern half, according to the province’s crop report released on July 18.
On a crop-by-crop basis, 83 percent of the fall rye, 79 percent of the winter wheat, 66 percent of the field peas, 63 percent of the lentils, 28 percent of the barley, 10 percent of the durum, seven per cent of the spring wheat and four per cent of the canola was harvested. An additional 36 percent of the canola was swathed or is ready to straight-cut.
Early reports pegged average canola yields in the province at 35 bushels per acre. Peas at 39 bu/ac, 1,452 pounds per acre for lentils, 23 bushels per acre for flax, 36 bushels per acre for durum, 42 bushels per acre for spring wheat and 66 bushels per acre for barley.
