Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $37.18 Sept. 4, up from $34.68 Aug. 28.

U.S. hogs averaged $45.89 on a carcass basis Sept. 4, up from $42.89 Aug. 28.

The U.S. pork cutout was $80.56 per hundredweight Sept. 4, up from $71.39 Aug. 28.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Sept. 5 was 2.484 million, down from 2.657 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.217 million last year at the same time.

In Canada the Sept. 5 Signature Four price was C$139.22 per 100 kilograms, up from $139.21.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $137.22, up from $137.21. HyLife was $147.97, down from $148.19, and OlyWest was $133.40, up from $131.20. The OlyWest 2021 price introduced this week is $156.50. HyLife’s adjusted price was $164.36, up from $163.15.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $3.50 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and heifers on light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $5 for prime bulls and $4.80 for heifers for slaughter in the U.S.

U.S. buyers are paying US$4 per lb. hog hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation, and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,365 sheep and lambs and 101 goats sold Aug. 31. Sheep and goats sold steady. Lambs sold slightly easier.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,476 sheep and 322 goats sold Aug. 31.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $190-$236 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $207-$232, 70-85 lb. were $212-$240, 86-105 lb. were $215-$243 and 106 lb. and heavier were $220-$236. Wool rams were $142-$170 per cwt. Cull ewes were $145-$192.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $180-$225 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $180-$220, 70-85 lb. were $205-$230, 86-105 lb. were $219-$238 and 106 lb. and heavier were $217-$230. Hair rams were $140-$180 per cwt. Cull ewes were $157-$215.
