Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $34.68 on Aug 28, up from $32.66 on Aug 21.

U.S. hogs averaged $42.89 on a carcass basis Aug 28, up from $40.20 Aug 21.

The U.S. pork cutout was $71.39 per hundredweight Aug 28, down from $73.51 Aug 21.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Aug. 29 was 2.664 million, up from 2.618 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.468 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Aug. 29 Signature Four price was C$139.21 per 100 kilograms, up from $136.26.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $137.21, up from $134.36. HyLife was $148.19, up from $145.38, and OlyWest was $131.20, up from $127.30. HyLife’s adjusted price was $163.15, down from $163.95.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $3.50 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and heifers on light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $5 for prime bulls and $4.80 for heifers for slaughter in the U.S.

U.S. buyers are paying US$4 per lb. hog hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,009 sheep and lambs and 88 goats sold Aug 24. All classes of lambs sold higher. All sheep sold stronger. Goats sold steady. Billies sold stronger.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 843 sheep and 70 goats sold Aug 24.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $200-$250 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $200-$244, 70-85 lb. were $212-$255, 86-105 lb. were $220-$243 and 106 lb. and heavier were $220-$236. Wool rams were $137-$180 per cwt. Cull ewes were $125-$192.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $180-$245 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $180-$227, 70-85 lb. were $215-$264, 86-105 lb. were $220-$241 and 106 lb. and heavier were $210-$230. Hair rams were $130-$210 per cwt. Cull ewes were $120-$196.
