Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $34.15 on Aug 14, up from $29.87 on July 24.

U.S. hogs averaged $37.60 on a carcass basis Aug 14, down from $38.11 Aug 7.

The U.S. pork cutout was $74.93 per hundred weight Aug 14, up from $71.93 Aug 7.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Aug. 15 was 2.565 million, up from 2.534 million the previous week.

Slaughter 2.491 million last year at the same time.

In Canada the Aug. 15 Signature Four price was C$133.52 per 100 kilograms, up from $133.52.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $133.39, up from $131.52. HyLife was $142.49, up from $141.35, and OlyWest was $124.40, up from $122.58. HyLife’s adjusted price was $160.01, up from $159.29.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $3.50 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and heifers on light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $5 for prime bulls and $4.80 for heifers for slaughter in the U.S.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.85 per lb. hog hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation, and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 889 sheep and lambs and 74 goats sold Aug 10. All classes of lambs sold steady to stronger. Goats sold steady. Thick sheep sold stronger with lean sheep selling fully steady to strong.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 960 sheep and 211 goats sold Aug 10.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $175-$270 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $190-$270, 70-85 lb. were $210-$240, 86-105 lb. were $210-$234 and 106 lb. and heavier were $210-$228. Wool rams were $120-$187 per cwt. Cull ewes were $120-$224.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $175-$210 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $184-$220, 70-85 lb. were $200-$234, 86-105 lb. were $205-$220 and 106 lb. and heavier were $200-$215. Hair rams were $130-$180 per cwt. Cull ewes were $130-$180.
