Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $26.86 July 17, up from $22.89 July 10.

U.S. hogs averaged $31.55 on a carcass basis July 17, up from $29.99 July 10.

The U.S. pork cutout was $71.19 per cwt. July 17, up from $68.95 July 10.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to July 18 was 2.518 million, down from 2.606 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.290 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the July 17 Signature Four price was C$123.58 per 100 kilograms, up from $122.50.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $121.58, up from $120.50. HyLife was $133.61, up from $121.02, and OlyWest was $109.60, up from $109.30. HyLife’s adjusted price was $152.75, up from $148.75.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $3.50 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and heifers on light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $5 for prime bulls and $4.80 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.85 per lb. hog hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60 per lb. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,755 sheep and lambs and 61 goats sold July 14. All classes of sheep, lamb and goats sold very actively at fully steady prices.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,107 sheep and 376 goats sold July 13.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $185-$240 per cwt., 55 to 69 lb. were $215-$250, 70 to 85 lb. were $220-$245, 86 to 105 lb. were $212-$238 and 106 lb. and heavier were $200-$232. Wool rams were $140-$151 per cwt. Cull ewes were $120-$194.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $150-$205 per cwt., 55 to 69 lb. were $184-$210, 70 to 85 lb. were $220-$242, 86 to 105 lb. were $215-$260 and 106 lb. and heavier were $200-$210. Hair rams were $130-$185 per cwt. Cull ewes were $120-$176.
