Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $24.01 June 19, down from $24.38 on June 12.

U.S. hogs averaged $28.48 on a carcass basis June 19, down from $30.36 June 12.

The U.S. pork cutout was $64.64 per cwt. June 19, down from $69.99 June 12.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to June 20 was 2.587 million, up from 2.451 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.454 million last year at the same time.

In Canada the June 20 Signature Four price was C$127.61 per 100 kilograms, down from $133.52.

Hams Marketing cash price was $125.61, down from $131.52. HyLife was $125.37, down from $130.37 and OlyWest was $119.20, down from $135.20. HyLife’s adjusted price was $149.69, down from $157.28.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $3.50 per lb. hot hanging weight (HHW) for Grade “A” bison bulls and heifers on light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $5, hot hanging weight, for prime bulls and $4.80 per lb. for slaughter heifers in the U.S.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.85 HHW for prime bulls from Canada for slaughter in the U.S. where slaughter times have been booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60 HHW – again where slaughter times have been booked. Returns to the producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation, and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 938 sheep and lambs and 39 goats sold June 15. Thick sheep sold at just steady prices. Thin sheep sold very strong. All lambs sold steady. Goats sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported 862 sheep and 356 goats sold June 15.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $260-$305 per cwt., 55 to 69 lb. were $250-$280, 70 to 85 lb. were $240-$270, 86 to 105 lb. were $215-$255 and 106 lb. and heavier were $215-$226.

Wool rams were $108-$160 per cwt. Cull ewes were $108-$200.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $230-$290 per cwt., 55 to 69 lb. were $230-$265, 70 to 85 lb. were $230-$250, 86 to 105 lb. were $210-$240 and 106 lb. and heavier were $200-$210.

Hair rams were $105-$120 per cwt. Cull ewes were $110-$202.
