Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $28.15 May 22, up from $26.27 May 15.

U.S. hogs averaged $38.68 on a carcass basis May 22, up from $37.11 May 15.

The U.S. pork cutout was $96.75 per cwt. May 22, down from 110.12 May 15.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to May 23 was 2.130 million, up from 2.098 million the previous week.

Slaughter 2.310 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the May 23 Signature Four price was C$175.39 per 100 kilograms, down from $179.73.

Hams Marketing cash price was $173.39, down from $177.73. HyLife was $166.15, down from $178.25, and OlyWest was $186, up from $179.00. HyLife’s adjusted price was $197.65, down from $210.72.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range were offered for C$3.50 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers offered US$3.60 per lb. with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers were offered C$3.50 per lb. hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers offered US$3.40 per lb.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 756 sheep and lambs and 13 goats sold May 19. All classes of sheep sold stronger. All lambs sold fully steady. Goats also sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,039 sheep and 242 goats sold May 19.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $240-$278 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $240-$273, 70-85 lb. were $230-$278, 86-105 lb. were $215-$255 and 106 lb. and heavier were $210-$227.

Wool rams were $110-$126 per cwt. Cull ewes were $110-$157.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $200-$250 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $230-$260, 70-85 lb. were $225-$250, 86-105 lb. were $210-$240 and 106 lb. and heavier were $190-$210.

Hair rams were $100-$160 per cwt. Cull ewes were $105-$154.
