Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $38.63 per cwt. Dec. 27, up from $36.74 on Dec. 13.

U.S. hogs averaged $49.06 on a carcass basis Dec. 27, up from $47.94 Dec. 13.

The U.S. pork cutout was $75.04 per cwt. Dec. 27, down from $81.88 Dec. 13.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Dec. 28 was 2.034 million, down from 2.810 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 1.902 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Dec. 28 Signature Five price was C$131.70 per 100 kilograms, up from C$130.62 the previous week.

On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $59.74, up from $59.25 the previous week.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said prices for Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range were $4.40-$5 per pound hot hanging weight with some sales reported as high as $5.40. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.85-$4.15 per lb. with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold for C$4.40-$4.80 per lb. hot hanging weight with some sales as high as $5.10. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.60-$3.80 per lb.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,706 sheep and lambs and 346 goats sold Dec. 13. Light cut and new crop lambs traded stronger. Heavy lambs traded barely steady. Sheep sold higher. Goats sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 974 sheep and 309 goats sold Dec. 16.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $180-$240 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $220-$240, 70-85 lb. were $210-$248, 86-105 lb. were $190-$230 and 106 lb. and heavier were $175-$205.

Wool rams were $91-$114 per cwt. Cull ewes were $95-$149.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $180-$225 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $205-$236, 70-85 lb. were $200-$236, 86-105 lb. were $180-$228 and 106 lb. and heavier were $170-$195.

Hair rams were $95-$146 per cwt. Cull ewes were $112-$128.
