The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $35.46 per hundredweight Nov. 22, up from $34.35 on Nov. 15.

U.S. hogs averaged $41.91 on a carcass basis Nov. 22, up from $42.73 Nov. 15.

The U.S. pork cutout was $83.07 per cwt. Nov. 22, down from $88.13 Nov. 15.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Nov. 23 was 2.758 million, up from 2.755 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.245 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Nov. 23 Signature Five price was C$126.57 per 100 kilograms, up from C$126.10 the previous week.

On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $57.41, up from $57.20 the previous week.


The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range offered prices from C$4.40-$5 per pound with some sales reported at $5.40 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.85-$4.15 per lb. with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers were offered for C$4.40-$4.80 hot hanging weight with some sales reaching $5.10. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.60-$3.80 per b.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.


Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 690 sheep and lambs and 101 goats sold Nov. 18. A light run of lambs sold higher. Good sheep sold steady. Thicker sheep sold $5-$7 per cwt. lower. Goats sold exceptionally strong.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,261 sheep and 227 goats sold Nov. 18.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $150-$176 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $150-$190, 70-85 lb. were $155-$184, 86-105 lb. were $147-$175and 106 lb. and heavier were $135-$152.

Wool rams were $70-$94 per cwt. Cull ewes were $83-$181.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $100-$145 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $130-$174, 70-85 lb. were $140-$170, 86-105 lb. were $131-$156 and 106 lb. and heavier were $130-$146.

Hair rams were $70-$125 per cwt. Cull ewes were $70-$90.
