Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $38.27 per cwt. Sept. 27. The price was unavailable on Sept. 20.

U.S. hogs averaged $48.39 on a carcass basis Sept. 27, up from $44.14 Sept. 20.

The U.S. pork cutout was $73.26 per cwt. Sept. 27, up from $69.15 Sept. 20.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Sept. 28 was 2.646 million, up from 2.588 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.559 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Sept. 27 Signature Five price was C$126.91 per 100 kilograms, down from C$127.28 the previous week.

On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $57.57, down from $57.73 the previous week.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices from C$4.80-$5 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.85-4 per lb. with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$4.70-$4.80. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.50-3.80 per lb.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,275 sheep and lambs and 127 goats sold Sept 23. Better quality new crop lambs sold higher. Heavy lambs sold spotty. Thicker types of sheep sold $5-$10 lower. Lean sheep sold steady. Goats sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,063 sheep and 294 goats sold Sept 23.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $120-$170 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $150-$175, 70 -85 lb. were $145-$165, 86-105 lb. were $145-$165 and 106 lb. and heavier were $140-$160.

Wool rams were $97-$132 per cwt. Cull ewes were $95-$137.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $120-$145 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $125-$160, 70-85 lb. were $125-$140, 86-105 lb. were $135-$150 and 106 lb. and heavier were $130-$155.

Hair rams were $94-$141 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$130.
