Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was US$61.96 per hundredweight Aug. 2, up from $60.54 July 26.

U.S. hogs averaged $77.20 on a carcass basis Aug. 2, down from $79.75 July 26.

The U.S. pork cutout was $86.64 per cwt. Aug. 2, up from $84.38 July 26.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Aug. 2 was 2.322 million, down from 2.351 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.255 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Aug. 3 Signature Five price was C$192.29 per 100 kilograms, up from $187.87 the previous week.

On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $87.22, up from $85.22.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices from C$4.90-$5.20 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.30 or more with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$4.80-$5.10. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.10.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,709 sheep and lambs and 117 goats sold July 29. Light lambs sold barely steady with all other classes fully steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,580 sheep and 370 goats sold July 29.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $165-$210 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $165-$200, 70-85 lb. were $195-$225, 86-105 lb. were $195-$225 and 106 lb. and heavier were $185-$206.

Wool rams were $124-$164 per cwt. Cull ewes were $110-$196.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $140-$170 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $165-$190, 70-85 lb. were $175-$218, 86-105 lb. were $195-$220 and 106 lb. and heavier were $180-$205.

Hair rams were $110-$155 per cwt. Cull ewes were $99-$200.
