Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was US$53.96 per hundredweight June 28, down from $57.54 June 21.

U.S. hogs averaged $68.18 on a carcass basis June 28, down from $74.03 June 21.

The U.S. pork cutout was $73.84 per cwt. June 28, down from $86.73 June 21.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to June 29 was 2.384 million, down from 2.449 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.238 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the June 29 Signature Five price was C$176.66 per 100 kilograms, down from $187.88 the previous week.

On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $80.13, down from $85.22.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices from C$4.90-$5.20 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.30 or more with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$4.90-$5.10. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.10.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,231 sheep and lambs and 36 goats sold June 24. All good lambs and sheep sold higher. All others sold steady. Goats sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 996 sheep and 302 goats sold June 24.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $235-$275 per cwt., 55-to 69 lb. were $235-$255, 70- 85 lb. were $210-$236, 86-105 lb. were $195-$223 and 106 lb. and heavier were $210-$217.

Wool rams were $80-$134 per cwt. Cull ewes were $70-$132.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $200-$277 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $220-$250, 70-85 lb. were $195-$223, 86-105 lb. were $190-$220 and 106 lb. and heavier were $200-$215.

Hair rams were $103-$158 per cwt. Cull ewes were $75-$161.
