Cow rescue

Charlene and Craig Kaartinen, who farm near Eriksdale, Man., had to rescue one of their cows March 18 that had become stuck on its back.

They speculate it was either knocked down by another cow or lost its footing while pushing back during calving and couldn’t set itself back up because of the soft snow or the incline.

Quick action with the tractor got the cow back on its feet. It was a bit dazed and its back leg had gone numb, leaving it with a temporary limp, but otherwise, it appeared to be no worse for the wear. | Charlene Kaartinen photos
