Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was US$39.80 per hundredweight Feb. 1, up from $39.36 Jan. 25.

U.S. hogs averaged $50.38 on a carcass basis Feb. 1, up from $51.32 Jan. 25.

The U.S. pork cutout was $66.99 per cwt. Feb. 1, down from $67.67 Jan. 25.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Feb. 2 was 2.387 million, down from 2.501 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.433 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Feb. 2 Signature Five price was C$132.25 per 100 kilograms, down from $135.77 the previous week.

On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $59.99, down from $61.58.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices from $5.50-$5.70 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.30 or more with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$5.30-$5.50. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.15.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 838 sheep and lambs and six goats sold Jan. 28. New crop lambs sold steady with most heavy lambs barely steady. Overweight heavy lambs sold under pressure. Sheep and goats traded steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 753 sheep and 141 goats sold Jan. 28.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $200-$245 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $215-$240, 70-85 lb. were $195-$221, 86-105 lb. were $169-$201 and 106 lb. and heavier were $162-$175.

Wool rams were $90-$129 per cwt. Cull ewes were $105-$129.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $120-$195 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $180-$225, 70-85 lb. were $180-$210, 86-105 lb. were $160-$195 and 106 lb. and heavier were $150-$165.

Hair rams were $100-$115 per cwt. Cull ewes were $95-$120.
