Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was US$36.49 per cwt. Aug. 10, down from $43.72 Aug. 3.

U.S. hogs averaged $45.05 on a carcass basis Aug. 10, down from $54.58 Aug. 3.

The U.S. pork cutout was $71.07 per cwt. Aug. 10, down from $71.68 Aug. 3.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Aug. 11 was 2.333 million, up from 2.320 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.284 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Aug. 11 Signature Five price was C$135.74 per 100 kilograms, down from $153.23 the previous week. On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $61.57, down from $69.50.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices from $6 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.60 or more with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$5.80. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.40.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 781 sheep and lambs and 10 goats sold Aug. 6. Lambs sold actively at steady prices. Good sheep sold steady; all others just barely steady. Goats sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,096 sheep and 227 goats sold Aug. 7.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $220-$261 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $210-$256, 70-85 lb. were $230-$256, 86-105 lb. were $220-$248 and 106 lb. and heavier were $220-$236.

Wool rams were $112-$130 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$169.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $200-$232 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $211-$246, 70-85 lb. were $230-$255, 86-105 lb. were $220-$235 and 106 lb. and heavier were $210-$226.

Hair rams were $120-$159 per cwt. Cull ewes were $85-$186.
